In the nineties developed, largely instrumental breakbeat variant, characterized by a fast rattling rhythm pattern, abundant sample use and an extremely low bass sound. A wide range of mostly English underground styles can fall under this name. At an early stage called jungle and later split into a number of variants such as the darkcore, the experimental artcore or jazzstep and the popular jump up or hardstep. Elements of drum & bass can also be found in the genre of dubstep that quickly became popular in the years zero. Drum & bass is often made by DJ's and producers like Roni Size, but also bands like Pendulum venture into the style.
