Dubstep

Young sprout on the tree of electronic genres, born in London in the late 1990s. The name of the genre is a contraction of 'dub' and '2-step'. With the first genre, dubstep shares the preference for deep bass lines and spooky echoes. From the 2-step (a subgenre of drum & bass) come the rhythms, although the beats in dubstep are slower than in drum & bass. Many artists cover themselves in a mysterious haze, they barely give interviews or don't perform (like Burial). The releases of the Hyperdub label are considered leading within the genre. A lot of dubstep is instrumental, in combination with rappers the music is called 'grime'.
