Desert blues

At the end of the 20th century, bands formed from the Tuaregs, or the nomadic Berber tribes living in the North African desert region, developed their own musical style in the Sahara and Sahel. Hypnotic rhythms, swaying like camels, are mixed with twisting Arabian melodies and raw blues and rock guitars. An unpolished sound, in which the hard life of the Tuareg resounds, and which initially was distributed on cassettes and telephone cards. In the meantime, Desert Blues has become an integral part of contemporary world music, with young imitators adding their own, modern styles.
